Andy,
Thanks for the demo and advice the other day. It has cleared up a lot and I am now trying to source the resin etc down here.
Hopefully next week I can get back into the workshop and do something constructive after the last 2 chaotic weeks.

Thanks again

Rob

I used glitter because I had it available. I was also worried about it flaking off but so far seems OK. Had to add a fair amount of glitter but it seems 'right'

I am now very keen to get started on other blanks.

Looks good. What I did find was that with the glitter it would flake off if it was on the edge. thats why I now use luster powders.

" />

I first attempt, not very inspiring but start of the learning curve
Normal casting resin with blue pigment and gold glitter.
Not very inspiring but I am happy for a first attempt.

I used to do a lot of casting but that was 50 years ago Shocked Shocked" />

As you may have seen I have cast some custom blanks and will be posting details of how. I will also be making up casting kits for those who wish to just buy the kit and then cast.

thanks

Andybear.

Hi

Have a look at these guys http://www.amtcomposites.co.za/retail I haven't tried this myself, but a friend of mine's wife uses their resins. they also offer training/courses. They supply smooth on which I read on the IAP forum is competition for Alumilite.
I am also very interrested in trying out resin casting so am keen to see if there are better products available in SA and where to find them.
BTW am new to forum still need to go to intro page.

Hi

I would like to get this also. My daughter said she would like to make the pen blanks. She likes to play with the colors.

Hi Rob,

I will in the next week post information on where to get resin and how to cast your own blanks. I will also give you some detail on various fillers and pigments. Most of all how to make your own blanks and have fun doing so.

Regards

Andy

Advice needed please Question Question

I am desperate to start casting pen blanks but the more I read the more confused I get.

I am asking someone with knowledge and experience to put together a very short summary of the different types of resin, the best to use and other useful tips.

On the International site most recommend polyester resin, but locally on the suppliers websites there are big warnings"For Industrial Use only"?

Also there seem to be a number of clear cast resins available. is any one better than the other.

Many thanks to anyone who can help

Rob
